While conservative America licks its wounds, kicks itself for missed opportunities, and sings a rousing chorus of, "Oh, woe is me," let's take stock in the fact that, according to the Dow Jones Industrial Average, not all is lost.
Apparently, the stock market liked the outcome of the election, closing yesterday at another all-time high. A lame duck executive encased in concrete with a Congress barely controlled by the other party is a good thing for business, and possibly for the rest of us, too. Remember in the 1980s when Newt and the Republicans, armed with the Contract for America, shut down the federal government? Nothing happened. No one died. We saved money. We could be looking in effect at two years of the same thing.
From my view on the right side of the street, a government that is unable to micromanage my life and spend billions to do so is a good thing.
